🐾 About the Zoo
Why did you start Dolphin’s Backyard Zoo?
Dolphin’s Backyard Zoo started as a way to share my animals, document their care, and create a fun educational space where people can learn about exotic pets and their behaviors. Are your animals rescues or pets?
Most of the animals are personal pets and resident ambassadors. Some may come from rehoming situations or from other breeders. Can I visit the zoo in person?
No, this is a private backyard setup and is not open for public visits.Do you plan to expand the zoo in the future?
Yes! The zoo will continue to grow over time with improved habitats, new setups, and potential future residents.
🦎 Animal Care
Do you breed your animals?
Yes, some of my animals may be part of carefully planned breeding projects. Any breeding is done responsibly with proper research, preparation, and the animals’ health as the top priority.Do you handle your animals?
Some animals are handled when appropriate for care, health checks, or enrichment, but handling depends on each animal. How often do you feed and take care of your animals?
Feeding, cleaning, and habitat checks are done regularly! You can learn more about their care schedules with the Recent Updates button at the top of this website. How do you make sure the animals are healthy and safe?
Each animal has a properly set up habitat with correct heating, lighting, humidity, diet, and enrichment. Their care is monitored daily and adjusted as needed.
🎥 Live Cams
Are the live cams 24/7?
The live cams are not on 24/7. They are only active when set up by Dolphin for viewing or streaming. A full schedule for cam times will be shared in the future. Why is an animal sometimes not visible?
Many animals naturally hide, burrow, or rest for long periods. This is normal behavior and varies by species. What camera system do you use for the live cams?
The live cams currently use an iPhone connected to a PC for streaming. In the future, I plan to upgrade to dedicated webcams or IP cameras for a more stable setup.
💛 Support & Community
What does support help with specifically?
Support helps with animal care, including food, enclosures, heating, lighting, enrichment, and improving habitats for all residents of the zoo.Is support required to watch or enjoy the zoo?
No, all content and live cams are free to view. Support is completely optional and never required. Can I suggest an animal or idea?
Yes! Suggestions are always welcome and appreciated. They help improve the zoo and inspire future updates or projects.
🐟 Species Behavior Questions
Why do axolotls stay still so often?
Axolotls naturally have low activity levels and spend much of their time resting or slowly exploring their environment. Why is the Pac-man frog always buried?
Pacman frogs are ambush predators and spend most of their time buried in substrate waiting for food to pass by.Why do bearded dragons like to stay on their basking spot?
